After the midterm elections closed on a rather anticlimactic finish, many expected Trump’s results in the 2024 presidential election polls to fall off, but the former president has remained popular.
Although it may look as if Trump’s support has dipped in recent months, it’s exactly the same as the May 2021 survey, which showed around 48% of GOP voters are supporting him.
Come 2024, Democrats will be in trouble
However, it’s important to note this number spiked to 57% in August this year, dipping back down to 48% this month, likely due to the underperformance of the GOP in the midterms this time around.

Even though Florida Governor Ron DeSantis never indicated he’s looking at a presidential bid, many are in support of the idea, especially after he completely demolished his competition in this year’s elections.
This directly impacted the overall support for DeSantis and the idea of him running for office. This spiked to 26% now that he demonstrated his competence and dedication to preserving this country’s traditional values.
While getting support from Independents, DeSantis managed to dominate the Florida elections this year with a rigid conservative agenda, coloring the state a deep red before midnight on Election Day.
The folks pushing Desantis know doing so now *hurts* Desantis as it antagonizes Trump supporters. You can safely assume their real objective is to hurt *both* Trump & Desantis.

Trump vs. DeSantis heats up
However, if Trump and DeSantis decide to run against each other in the preliminaries for the 2024 election, they’re each pulling from different parts of the Republican primary electorate.
As it turns out, the average Trump voter is more likely to be a woman, a person of color, or a person lacking a college education. However, those voting for DeSantis are more likely to be from the suburbs and live in a higher-income household.
Unfortunately, at least according to the current polls, almost a quarter of the potential voters support neither of the two candidates at this point in time; although things are bound to change with next month’s report after DeSantis’ victory.

Trump did take a few jabs at DeSantis a couple of days earlier, giving him the nickname “Ron DeSanctimonious.” Later, he dialed back on it in an interview with Fox News Digital, where he called DeSantis a fine guy.
With the 2024 presidential election coming up, anything is possible. Though Trump has said DeSantis could hurt himself immensely if he chooses to run, based on the results from the current polling.
It remains unclear what DeSantis’ stance is on the idea of him running in the presidential election in 2024. The Florida governor did previously state that he’s likely to retain his position as governor; although two years is more than enough time for him to change his mind.
In the end, there is more than enough time for Republicans to decide if they’re going for a new option or continuing MAGA in the future.
