President Trump also stated, “we are delivering millions of doses of a safe and effective vaccine that will soon end this terrible pandemic and save millions and millions of lives.” Under the Trump administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has supervised the distribution of approximately 10 million vaccines as of Wednesday morning.
The President also thanked the people behind the scenes with whom he said: “worked tirelessly to make this breakthrough possible.” President Trump said, “We’re grateful for all of the scientists, researchers, manufacturing workers, and service members who have worked tirelessly to make this breakthrough possible.” He continued, “It is truly a Christmas miracle,” referring to the COVID-19 vaccine development and distribution.
The President also added, “In this holy season, we thank God for His infinite love, and we pray that the light of His glory will forever shine on this magnificent land. On behalf of Melania and the entire Trump family, we wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.”
First Lady Melania Trump ended that message by saying that she and the President are offering their warmest wishes to everyone as they are celebrating Christmas with their families. She said, “May the love we share with our family & friends fill our hearts with peace & joy.”
Trump also previously signed the Executive Order to ensure that the American people will be first in line to receive the COVID-19 vaccines.
The coronavirus vaccine, which was developed under the Trump administration, has placed Americans’ health and safety, the viability of the economy, and the security of the Nation first. In a statement by the White House, the United States has also been on top of the world’s humanitarian response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a report by The Wall Street Journal, it stated that President Trump offered all employees of the executive branch Christmas Eve, as a full holiday. This is consistent with a tradition that he himself established three years ago.
In the past, former presidents only give half days for Christmas Eve if Christmas fell on a Friday. Employees of the executive branch were only given full days off when Christmas day falls near a weekend.
However, Congressional leaders still have worked through Christmas Eve. This is amidst President Trump’s displeasure with the coronavirus stimulus package relief. Lawmakers are also expected to come back next week, absent President Trump’s signature on the stimulus-omnibus package. Said package has already passed on both the House and the Senate and reportedly gathered overwhelming bipartisan support.
