Much to the frustration of many political leaders, Americans are tiring of increasingly austere restrictions upon their lives and movements. The fact that politicians and health officials are marketing these restrictions as beneficial to fighting coronavirus does not change the reactions.

This past weekend, many New York residents gathered with one another without “masking up” or putting six feet between themselves and others. Such a move absolutely enraged New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D).

In response, the New York governor went on a Twitter rant against New Yorkers who gathered with one another; in this rant, Cuomo admonished state residents and furthermore threatened to close the state yet against, reports Breitbart News.

Why Governor Cuomo Threatened Another New York Lockdown

The New York governor is frustrated that residents of the state are failing to endlessly wear face masks and keep social distancing at all times. On his Twitter account, Cuomo stated that failure to adhere to the aforementioned guidelines isn’t “New York Tough” or “New York Smart.”

After then demanding that New Yorkers “social distance” and “wear a mask,” the New York governor stated that taking the “risk” of not adhere to these measures isn’t worth it.

Despite Governor Cuomo’s Twitter rant, it’s important to note that he and many other Democrats took no issue with Black Lives Matter demonstrators gathering with one another, even in the absence of face masks and social distancing.

The New York gatherings this past weekend mark yet another instance of Americans gradually pushing back against restrictions imposed by those in power. Cuomo’s threat to reclose bars and other parts of New York if residents congregate with one another only signifies a growing loss of consent from the governed.

Pushback Against COVID-19 Restrictions

New York civilians are not the only individuals pushing back against coronavirus restrictions. In another segment of Cuomo’s rant, he complained about local officials and police failing to enforce restrictions like social distancing and face masking.

Law enforcement officials in New York are far from the only ones to decline enforcement of coronavirus restrictions. Police in Ohio, Michigan, Texas, and other areas throughout the nation are determining that certain restrictions, such as mandatory masking, are not worth enforcing.

It’s also important to note that major sectors of New York’s police officers are facing defunding. Therefore, some may find it curious that the state’s governor still expects heavy enforcement of measures like social distancing and mandatory face coverings.
