Time is ticking when it comes to the midterm elections. These races will ultimately decide how the congressional power balance shakes out for the remainder of Joe Biden’s time in the White House.
Various issues such as inflation, abortion, gas prices, and more are anticipated to have an impact on how the midterms ultimately pan out.
Many Republicans are looking forward to taking back the House and Senate so they have a greater say in the bills being passed. Thus far, at least two spending packages (the American Rescue Plan and the Inflation Reduction Act) were passed without a single GOP vote.
However, new commentary from GOP Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell reveals he’s not too confident in his party’s chances of winning back the Senate, per Washington Examiner.
McConnell on Republicans’ Chances in the Senate
While speaking with the press on Thursday, the GOP leader explained that Senate races are different from House races because the former are statewide.
After giving this reminder, McConnell declared “candidate quality” as a huge factor in how the Senate races will ultimately play out. Ultimately, the Kentucky Republican said a greater likelihood of Republicans flipping the House, rather than the Senate, exists today.

Since the Senate Minority Leader made these remarks, it’s been inferred that he was subtly citing some of the GOP Senate candidates endorsed by former President Trump.
Trump-backed Senate candidates in both Georgia and Pennsylvania, for instance, are struggling to get a lead on their Democratic opponents.
There are still several months remaining before November, so time will tell whether these GOP candidates can turn things around.

Even earlier this year, the Senate Minority Leader was warning that Republicans shouldn’t get too cocky about the midterms.
Back in April, McConnell cautioned that despite all the issues facing Democrats at the time, Republicans still managing to make a mess of things wasn’t out of the question by any means.

However, many other GOP members are confident that Republicans will do well and take back both congressional chambers. Conservatives with this outlook believe this year’s midterms will ultimately be a referendum on the Biden administration and how it’s failed Americans.
Democrats, on the other hand, are hoping to win votes on the issue of abortion. The party appears to be reinvigorated on this issue since the Supreme Court toppled Roe v. Wade back in late June.
Nevertheless, a lot can certainly take place between now and November.
