Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Set to Face Charlie Crist in Gubernatorial Election

Last night, the state of Florida held its primary elections. These elections encompassed not just gubernatorial candidates to head to the general race, but also the various Senate and House candidates who’ll be competing in November.

For a while, Florida was seen as a swing state. Though under the leadership of Gov. Ron DeSantis, it’s largely flipped red. Republicans control the Florida state legislature, for one thing.

On top of this, Republicans also now have more registered voters in Florida than Democrats do.

Yesterday, the gubernatorial primary race determined that Charlie Crist, a GOP member turned Democrat, will be the one to face off against DeSantis in November, per Breitbart News.

What to Know About DeSantis vs. Crist

On social media, Crist has repeatedly taken shots at DeSantis. In the wake of winning the Florida Democratic primary, Crist now claims that he’s going to unseat DeSantis and reverse many of his policies upon getting into office.

Nevertheless, multiple polls have shown DeSantis beating Crist by several points in a one-on-one match. Crist has been on board with mandatory mask orders and a host of other policies that Floridians moved to the Sunshine State in order to escape.

DeSantis has expressed confidence in winning a second term. He’s made it clear that freedom is on the ballot in November.

Freedoms in the state were repeatedly criticized by the mainstream media and Democrats like Crist who would have been more than happy to lock everything down in 2020 and 2021.

A Hard Sell For Crist

Despite Democrats’ talk about needing to be united behind Crist for the sake of defeating DeSantis, it’s going to be a hard sell for him to get into the governor’s mansion.

For one thing, the 100,000+ voter registration advantage that Republicans now have over Democrats tracks with the rise of new people moving to Florida.

DeSantis won his first race for governor when the state had more Democratic voters than GOP ones. He arguably has more in his favor nowadays than he did back in 2018.

Aside from the voter registration advantage enjoyed by the Florida GOP and polls that show Crist trailing DeSantis, the Florida governor’s also got much more cash on hand than his Democratic rival.

Thus far, DeSantis is documented to have amassed a war chest of more than $100 million. This is historic for a candidate of either party in a gubernatorial election.

At this rate, many Floridians appear happy with DeSantis and eager to get him another term in the governor’s mansion, despite what Democrats have to say about it.
