Florida Cities Sued Over Mandatory Face Masks

While cases, yet not deaths, of COVID-19 continue to increase, many leaders in power are passing mandates and ordinances that require Americans to wear face masks in public.

These orders vary in degree. Some face mask mandates demand usage both indoors and outdoors; others only require face coverings in one setting or the other. Then, there are certain leaders, such as Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who have directed businesses to outrightly deny service to individuals without face masks.

Many people across the nation have tired of face mask requirements. This is why more and more people are speaking out and even initiating lawsuits to overturn mandates demanding compulsory masking.

Per sources, one of the latest cities to be sued over mandatory face masks is DeLand, Florida.

Reviewing the Lawsuit Against the City of DeLand

At this time, Florida Rep. Anthony Sabatini (R) is suing DeLand and other Florida cities that have decided to mandate face coverings. Yesterday, the representative slammed DeLand’s mandatory face mask ordinance as “completely unconstitutional and illegal.”

Sabatini also pointed out that in the history of Florida’s existence, the government has never regulated the bodies and faces of Americans. At this time, the conservative House member is representing a Florida man who claims that wearing a face-covering could make him sick.

Under the mandate passed by DeLand, Florida, individuals who decline to wear face masks are liable to face fines as high as $100. Rep. Sabatini has multiple pending lawsuits and has expressed determination to take his suit against mandatory face masks to the Florida Supreme Court.

More Resistance to Come?

As face masks mandates gradually roll out, they continue to face social opposition and legal challenges.

Despite the presence of coronavirus, there are still Americans who value their rights, freedoms, and liberties. In fact, many liberty-loving individuals hold firm to the belief that times of crises are when vigilance of individual rights is more important than ever.

The conservative Florida representative is not the first person to file lawsuits to block forced face masking and he most likely won’t be the last. As the mandatory face mask ordinances become more and more draconian, Americans are rising up, pushing back, and not having it.

What do you think will come of the Florida Republican’s multiple lawsuits against forced face masking? Do you believe Americans should be able to decide whether or not they wish to wear a mask? Don’t hold back your thoughts in the comments section below!
