Biden Program Makes Our Country a MAGNET for Illegal Immigration

The number of migrants that tested positive for COVID-19 after being released by the Border Patrol in Texas has doubled in number, raising concerns from the Texans and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

According to Felipe Romero, a spokesperson for Brownsville, 185 migrants had tested positive on Monday. This number is higher compared to the 108 that he last disclosed last Wednesday.

Romero also added that as of Saturday, there were already a total of 1,553 individuals that had tested positive since January 25 after coming across the U.S. Mexico border.

The rising figures come as a camp that houses around 800 migrants near Matamoros closed last Sunday, with most migrants being allowed inside the U.S. soil.

Under the Trump administration, migrants were forced to wait at the camp for their immigration papers to be processed in compliance with the Migrant Protection Protocols policy or otherwise known as the “Remain-in-Mexico” policy.

However, the Biden administration is bypassing said process and winding that effort down.

Last week, Romero said that Brownsville does not have the authority to stop those who tested positive for COVID-19 from traveling elsewhere in the country. They are only advised to quarantine, following the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Meanwhile, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott rejected Biden’s proposal for setting up migrant testing at the border. He also slammed the Biden administration for allowing to release of COVID-positive migrants into the country.

The Texas governor had also rejected the Biden administration’s proposal for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to partner with Texas in testing and potentially quarantining migrants that are surging across the border amid a controversy over the release of COVID-positive migrants into Texas.

Abbott said in a statement, “Instead of doing their job, the Biden Administration suggested it did not have the sufficient resources and, remarkably, asked Texas to assist them in aiding their illegal immigration program. Texas refused.”

“We will not aid a program that makes our country a magnet for illegal immigration.”

According to the Washington Post report, the Biden administration wants to use FEMA in South Texas to test and quarantine migrants before they are released into the country.

A spokesperson for Abbott also confirmed that the Biden administration proposed a partnership with Texas for testing, screening, and quarantining migrants. However, Abbott was not interested in the said proposal as it was the federal government’s role to test those who are coming inside the country.

The spokesperson also added that Abbott fears that it would make Texas a “magnet” for illegal immigration.

Abbott made this statement after Fox News reported last Wednesday that there were 108 migrants in Brownsville, Texas, who tested positive for COVID-19 after they arrived in the country. Some of whom had also taken buses to other states.

Abbott also said in his statement, “The unconscionable act by the Biden Administration of releasing COVID-positive illegal immigrants in our state puts the lives of Texans and Americans at risk. Border security is strictly a federal responsibility.” He continued, “The federal government alone has the responsibility to test, screen, and quarantine illegal immigrants crossing our border who may have COVID.”

Then according to a report by Fox News on Friday, A DHS spokesperson is currently working with Texas officials to provide testing, isolation, and quarantine for migrants.Â
