Could it be that Biden is finally going to actually protect the US border? On Thursday, January 5, Biden promised to toughen rules at the southern border by cracking down on illegal aliens.
This comes as more than two million illegals were apprehended in 2022. Now, in the new year, Biden said he’s going to get serious and his administration will no longer accept Nicaraguans, Haitians, and Cubans illegally entering into the country.
Why Is Biden Focusing On These Groups?
Commonly, these illegal immigrants cross the border of Mexico in various dangerous ways, often paying off dangerous cartels and human traffickers.
Let’s just say Biden’s taking somewhat late steps for those who’ve been in office for a little over two years.
The border problem is not something recent; it has always existed and the Biden administration turned a blind eye to this issue so far.
Though now he claims he’s finally going to act? The rules, recently imposed by Biden, also serve to prevent Venezuelans from entering illegally across the country’s southern border.
Biden’s Advice to Illegal Aliens
Biden gave advice to people who are considering entering the U.S. illegally. He said it’s better for people to stay where they are and not try to enter the U.S. illegally.
This announcement came four days before Biden embarked on his first visit to the southern border of Texas.
Next week, Biden will meet to discuss his agenda in Mexico City. The government promises to tighten up rules for illegal immigrants who are already inside the U.S. as well, many of them from Mexico.
By contrast, the U.S. will accept a maximum of 30,000 legal immigrants per month from these four countries, who remain in the country for two years to work legally in the country.
These immigrants will have to prove they have a clean criminal record and some eligible sponsors for employment.
Will This Work?
Biden says this new border control system is safe, respects human rights, and will work. As always, there are those people who are against the new measures.
Some people are criticizing Biden’s handling of immigrants now, especially critics who advocate for asylum and immigration.
American Civil Liberties Union border strategy director Jonathan Blazer appreciates Biden seeking to respect legal rights, but he says Biden is just being harsh like Trump.
In addition, several Republicans spoke out about the Biden administration’s inefficiency concerning U.S. border security.
In the House, Republicans promise they will open investigations into Biden’s border policies. Biden argues the new measures will alleviate the border problem, but he will not be able to resolve the issue altogether.
Considering that Mexicans will still be illegally entering by the hundreds of thousands and there are already millions of illegals we don’t even know about inside the country, this is definitely ridiculous posturing at its worst on Biden’s part. This article appeared in FreshOffThePress and has been published here with permission.
