Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has been criticized for her hypocritical views on violence.
While House Republicans were engaged in a heated debate over the election of the successive House Speaker, AOC attempted to downplay her own extremist beliefs by attacking the GOP.
However, her actions have not gone unnoticed and many have called her out for her inconsistency on this issue.
AOC’s Accusations of Republican “Insurrection”
In an interview with The Independent, AOC labeled Republicans as “insurrectionists,” ignoring the significant amount of violence and destruction caused by Democrats in numerous cities during 2020.
She stated the recent events in Congress only highlight the lack of substance and bad faith in the argument that progressives are just as harmful as these “insurrectionist” Republicans.
Ocasio-Cortez’s comment equating Republicans who oppose McCarthy’s speakership with “insurrectionists” is either a misinformed or intentionally deceitful statement. The term “insurrection” typically refers to a violent rebellion against a governing body or authority.
Ocasio-Cortez’s accusations of Republican “insurrection” are particularly inappropriate given the widespread violence and destruction caused by left-wing protesters throughout 2020.

Although it could be true a certain number of the protesters at the January 6 rally remained peaceful, it is also true there was widespread violence and destruction across the country in 2020.
This was fueled by progressive groups and endorsed by many Democrats, including Ocasio-Cortez herself.
To label Republicans as “insurrectionists” while ignoring this fact is hypocritical and lacks credibility. It is important to hold all individuals and groups accountable for their actions, regardless of political affiliations.
To do otherwise is to diminish the severity of the violence and destruction that occurred in 2020, and to deny responsibility for the harm caused to people and communities.
Progressives’ Endorsement of Political Violence
It is clear progressive Democrats, including AOC and Kamala Harris, endorsed political violence and supported individuals who participated in riots and destruction of property.

If Democrats would suggest they are not “just as bad” as Republicans who may have engaged in inappropriate behavior during the January 6th protest, it would be not only incorrect, but also hypocritical.
It is important to hold all politicians accountable for their actions and statements, regardless of their party affiliation. The double standard and selective outrage displayed by AOC and her colleagues only serve to further divide and polarize the country.
The evidence clearly shows AOC and other progressive Democrats have, in fact, endorsed political violence. They have encouraged and justified the riots that caused destruction and harm to countless communities across the country.
To claim Democrats are not “just as bad” as “insurrectionist” Republicans is a blatant attempt to deceive the public and distract from their own actions.
It is hypocritical for AOC to criticize Republicans for supposedly supporting violence when she and her colleagues have done the same. This article appeared in Right Wing Insider and has been published here with permission.
