Social media users were quick to condemn Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the socialist New York congresswoman, for not “redistributing” her wealth to her grandmother; this came after AOC posted the poor living conditions of her abuela and blamed the former Trump administration for it.

On Wednesday, Ocasio-Cortez posted a thread on Twitter with pictures of her grandmother’s home. The images showed how the ceiling is falling in several places. It also showed how empty the home is with little to no furniture seen.

In the tweet, Ocasio-Cortez mentioned that her grandmother fell ill a week ago, so she traveled to Puerto Rico to see her for the first time in a year due to COVID.

She then showed a picture of her grandma’s house, which was ravaged by Hurricane Maria, according to Ocasio-Cortez. However, relief has never arrived.

The New York congresswoman then blamed Trump for allegedly “blocking” the relief for PR. She then claimed that people are forced to leave their ancestral homes, as developers take them.

Social media user questioned why AOC did not help her grandma

However, instead of gaining empathy from social media users, they were quick to question why the New York congresswoman (whose salary is $174,000) did not throw a few bucks to her grandma’s home for repairs.

Matt Walsh, a conservative columnist, was one of the first few who criticized Ocasio-Cortez.

Walsh mentioned that it is “shameful” that the congresswoman lives in luxury while letting her own grandmother suffer.

Lavern Spicer, a GOP candidate for Florida’s congressional district, also took it on Twitter and mentioned Ocasio-Cortez’s lavish lifestyle.

Spicer said that Ocasio-Cortez is a Tesla driver and has two apartments. She added that if the living conditions of AOC’s grandmother are poor, that is because the congresswoman did not help her.

According to reports, Ocasio-Cortez has two apartments, one in New York and another in Washington, D.C. She also owns a Tesla Model 3 Long Range with a value resting between $46,000 to $59,000.

Meanwhile, after posting pictures of her grandmother’s home, Ocasio-Cortez went on to justify that she believes Trump is to blame for her grandmother’s poor living conditions.

Ocasio-Cortez said that in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, the Trump administration overlooked two things: first, handling funds to whom she called “unqualified donor pals.” Secondly, AOC claimed that Trump imposed notably complicated eligibility rules for Puerto Ricans, which caused mass denials of recovery fund applications.

Ocasio Cortez added that although the Trump administration played a major role, La Junta and local policies were also liable.

She then asked for audits to have these recovery reliefs for the people as soon as possible.

However, one social media user debunked Ocasio-Cortez’s allegations.

The person posted on Twitter saying that he spent weeks in different places in Puerto Rico and never encountered a single resident who blamed Trump for what happened.
